KONA HISTORICAL SOCIETY
2025 ANNUAL/YEAR-END CAMPAIGN!
As the year comes to a close, we reflect on the incredible journey of 2025, and we are very thankful for your loyal support. The mission of Kona Historical Society (“KHS”) is to collect, preserve, and share the history of Kona. We maintain two sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places: The H.N. Greenwell Store and the Kona Coffee Living History Coffee Farm, and we make them available to Kama’aina and visitors throughout the year. In addition:
We preserve extensive archives related to Kona that are utilized by many scholars, members, and visitors conducting related research;
We host exhibits in the H.N. Greenwell Store and host free community events, such as our Hanohano lecture series and Christmas at Kalukalu.
We offer field trips at both of our sites as well as youth programs so that students can experience learning beyond the classroom.
We have two amazing Kona Nightingale Donkeys that live at the Kona Coffee Living History Farm. We also maintain the original Uchida family homestead, which includes their home, coffee farm, gardens, donkey pens, kuriba (mill), and hoshidana (drying platform).
Starting in 2024, we brought back our off-road adventures, now called Off Road Huaka’i, which are always a special treat!
As hard as it is to believe, we are still recovering from the 2020 shutdown - yet we forge ahead. It takes a sustained effort over a long period of time to cultivate and build an organization, and it is amazing how quickly it can be crippled. That being said, the future looks bright, and we are slowly and methodically building back up - all while continuing to serve our mission and our community. The ability to retain talented staff is needed throughout 2026 to continue offering educational and cultural programs, as well as to maintain Kona’s precious and historic sites.
We have a fundraising goal $50K for our combined annual/year-end campaign. Please consider giving to the Kona Historical Society as you make your year-end giving plans. Every contribution, of any size, is greatly appreciated! KHS is a 501c3 nonprofit organization, and donations may also be tax-deductible (FEIN 99-0167275) for your 2025 tax planning!
We hope that you will also consider becoming a member of KHS to keep informed of the upcoming KHS programs and activities (https://konahistorical.org/membership). In addition, if you haven’t been to either of our sites, we invite you to visit them in 2026. They will give you a renewed sense of our Kona values and will take you back to simpler times, which is quite refreshing. Mahalo for being a part of Kona Historical Society's story!
Mahalo nui for your time and consideration!
