Kona Historical Society’s Jean Greenwell Library & Archive holds more than 50,000 images depicting such subjects as ethnic culture, geography, agriculture, religion, and education in Kona between 1790 and 1994. In this collection, there are several photographs with unidentified subjects.
Once a week, Kona Historical Society will share one of these photos to be published in West Hawaii Today, the daily broadsheet newspaper circulated on the west side of Hawaii Island. West Hawaii Today subscribers and the public are asked to help provide any information that can lead to the identification of the people, events, happenings and/or time period in these photographs.
This is a special collaborative project between Kona Historical Society, a community-based nonprofit organization that owns the photos, and the Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union, who sponsors the ad space. It’s part of the Society’s ongoing effort to collect, preserve, and share Kona’s history.
