The Fourth of July, or Independence Day, holds tried and true traditions for some people nationwide. No matter where you are, there's usually a parade celebrating the birthday of America. Here in the Kona Districts, throughout the years, residents have thrown special parades recognizing the holiday and those in our community like this one pictured.

This historic photo from the Collections of Kona Historical Society is of the Fourth of July 1924 parade in Kainaliu town, looking mauka side at Ikeda Store (now Kimura's Fabric), Nakamoto's Store and Nozaki Store.

With the current pandemic, events like parades aren't happening. Still, we hope this historic photo spurs fond memories of your favorite holiday traditions.
